Echinodorus tenellus is commonly called Pygmy Chain Sword.  This name is given because it is a low growing plant (usually no taller than 4 inches) and it forms runners with new plantlets very quickly.  For this reason, it has been used as a carpeting plant for many years.  It is the easiest carpeting plant to grow, as it does not require CO2.  As with other Echinodorus species, fertilizer will definitely help keep the plants looking their best.
